First day of College

Walking into that red artistically carved British era building was not at all a first time experience for me. Yet, something felt different. I may have set foot in the 120 yrs old Ewing Christian College, an Autonomous college of highly deemed Allahabad University, countless times. But this, this was unexpected. I guess being a professor’s daughter and being a student changes things.

Being an extrovert myself, I met my first best bud Varsha Singh outside Chemistry department, both of us among our other fellow classmates trying to solve the mystery of where to go. The day started with our professors guiding us through the ground rules of the lab and how we weren’t supposed to take the classes lightly. Then gradually passing through the day I met my gang- Rahul, Samantha, Sakshi – n some others met later, which is a story for another day.

Entering through that black gate, which also had its companion, the lined floor entry, whose pranks’ victim I alongwith many others had become, I never thought I’ll not be only learning about the various organic reactions, but also the complex chemical reactions of life. Even after attending festivities like Christmas so many times in the premise, I was only familiar with the Tooker Hall and Psychology department. All the other buildings, I only knew the name of.

That day I knew that there were other cool areas like Star Garden and Media Side. I would be lying if I’d be saying that the way went smoothly. It had a lot of confusions, nervousness and fear of the professors. More so for wards of professors like me as they had to prove their capabilities to their profs and their former uncles, who merged in one in some cases.

In the end, I’d only like to say the memories of first day of your college, are remarkable. The friends you make that day, are undetachable. Sometimes, for some people, it becomes a haunting one with all the ragging and bullying, but speaking for myself and for my cohorts, I can assert it that we were fortunate for such supportive seniors and super-seniors. All in all, my first day at ECC, Allahabad, as a student, was marvellous.
